Frequently Asked Questions

How does pelvic floor therapy work?

Pelvic floor therapy involves a detailed evaluation and personalized approach to address your symptoms. During a session, we’ll discuss your concerns, assess your posture, and observe how you perform everyday movements like sitting, standing, or managing your children.

We’ll also examine your breathing and core muscles to understand their connection to your symptoms.

Internal work is done on a consent basis and your comfort is of the utmost importance. Internal work allows for assessing muscle tension, asymmetry, scar tissue and muscle coordination.

What can I expect from an evaluation?

Your first visit, the initial evaluation, lasts about 90 minutes. During this time, we’ll get to know each other, discuss your concerns and goals, and explore what you hope to achieve with pelvic floor therapy. By the end of the session, you’ll leave with personalized recommendations, functional exercises to do at home, and valuable education tailored to your needs.

Is internal work necessary?

Internal assessments are always based on your comfort and can be done at a time that feels right for you, whether that’s during the first visit or later.

While not mandatory, an internal assessment provides valuable insights into how your pelvic floor and core muscles function together. It helps identify pain points, scar tissue, tightness, strength, and how your body manages pressure. This detailed information allows for a more accurate evaluation and can help guide your progress more effectively.

How long does pelvic floor therapy take?

The duration of pelvic floor therapy varies based on individual symptoms and medical history. On average, 6–8 sessions are recommended for those who can consistently integrate the education and exercises into their daily routines. Your progress will depend on your unique needs and commitment to the process.

Can I still do pelvic floor therapy during my period?

Yes, you can continue pelvic floor therapy during your period if you feel comfortable. Internal work can still be done, and external work is not affected. Rescheduling is entirely your choice based on how you’re feeling.
