As a woman would prepare her body for pregnancy and seek prenatal care throughout her motherhood journey, so should she have support and guidance to help her properly recover postpartum. The female body goes through miraculous changes throughout pregnancy, but those changes continue to impact a woman’s physical and emotional health long after delivery. Think about an elite athlete competing in a major event who gives their recovery process as much attention as they gave to their pre-event training. Postpartum care is vital to creating healthy, happy, thriving mamas!
Postpartum women commonly receive diagnoses such as diastasis recti, a separation of the linea alba (lining of fascia) within the abdomen, bladder dysfunction or prolapse, experience pain, pressure, and feelings of fullness, all of which are symptoms of core and pelvic dysfunction. Women need to know that although these diagnoses may be typical, they are not normal, and through proper postpartum recovery these symptoms can resolve.
As BIRTHFIT Professionals we are trained to recognize signs and symptoms of core and pelvic dysfunction. As Doctors of Chiropractic we are trained to understand the anatomy and biomechanics of these areas thus helping to determine the cause of instability. Through manual therapy such as chiropractic adjustments and muscle work, diaphragmatic breathing and core stabilization exercises, most women experience significant improvement to complete resolution of symptoms.
